Twelve books in September?! That’s a record for me! I’d have to do some more digging but I think it’s safe to say this month had some of the best books I’ve read this year.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I post a lot about the books I’m reading. Thanks to my handy dandy reading log spreadsheet full of statistics and charts and graphs (found here), I learned that out of the 50+ books read this year, only about 4-5% of them were written by or about non-white people. I was pretty embarrassed and disappointed in this statistic. I’ve been making a conscious effort to diversify my reading and branch out to authors I have yet to read/hear about. I currently have about eight books on hold at the library written by and about black people, immigrants, Latinx people, etc. and I am excited to dive into those!
Fall is the perfect reading season and now that October is among us (how?!), I wish you many brisk days full of cozy sweaters, chunky blankets, and of course – amazing books.
